ਮਿਲਖੀ ਰਾਮ ਮਿਲਖੀ (1919-2013) ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਰੇਡੀਓ ਲਈ ਆਡੀਸ਼ਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਸ ਵੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਅਗਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਵੰਡ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਤੇ ਏਧਰ ਆਉਣਾ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ। ਆਡੀਸ਼ਨ ਮੌਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ‘ਹੀਰ’ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਵੰਡ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਏਧਰ ਆ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਦੀ ਬਸਤੀ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇੱਥੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਮੁੜ ਜ਼ੀਰੋ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖੀ ਤੇ ਰੇਡੀਓ ’ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਆਡੀਸ਼ਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ‘ਮਿਰਜ਼ਾ’ ਗਾਇਆ ਤੇ ‘ਪਾਸ’ ਦਾ ਸਰਟੀਫ਼ਿਕੇਟ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ। ਬਸ ਫੇਰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਗਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਸਿਲਸਿਲਾ। ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਰੇਡੀਓ ਤੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੋਣ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਮਿਲਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਨਜ਼ਾਤਮ ਨਗਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਲਾਟ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਤੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਸਮੇਤ ਉੱਥੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ।
ਪਰਿਵਾਰ
ਮਿਲਖੀ ਰਾਮ ਮਿਲਖੀ[1] ਦਾ ਕਮਲਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ। ਤਿੰਨ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਪੁੱਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣੇ। ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਲਾਸੀਕਲ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਸੀ, ਗੁਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਲਾਲ, ਚਲਾਣਾ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਖੀ ਨੂੰ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਸਦਮਾ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਪੁੱਤ ’ਤੇ ਹੱਦੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਮਾਣ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ, ਉਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਲਿਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਂਜ ਪੋਤਿਆਂ-ਪੜਪੋਤਿਆਂ, ਦੋਹਤਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਿਲਖੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਜਾਪਿਆ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਹਸਰਤ ਬਾਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਏ।
ਰਿਕਾਰਡਿੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਵਾਈ
ਗਾ-ਗਾ ਮਿਲਖੀ ਰਾਮ ਮਿਲਖੀ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੁਝ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਪਰ ਰਿਕਾਰਡਿੰਗ ਵੱਲ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕੋ ਗੀਤ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਹੋਇਆ ‘ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਦਿਨ ਜਦ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਲਗਾਇਆ’ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕਈ ਕੰਪਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਬੁਲਾਵੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਾਂਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ।’’ ਉਸ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਬੀਬਾ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਬੜੀ ਵਾਰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਮਿਲਖੀ ਜੀ, ਕੁਝ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਕਰਾ ਲਵੋ, ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ, ਰਾਇਲਟੀ ਆਈ ਜਾਏਗੀ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਰਿਕਾਰਡਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਏਨਾ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਪੁੱਛੋ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ। ਪੰਜਾਬੋਂ ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਸੂਬਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਨ। ਕਦੇ ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ, ਕਦੇ ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼, ਕਦੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ, ਕਦੇ ਹਰਿਆਣੇ, ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ-ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਤੇ ਨਿਆਣੇ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਗੀਤ
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲੋਕ ਗਾਥਾਵਾਂ ਨਿੱਠ ਕੇ ਗਾਈਆਂ, ‘ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਤ’, ‘ਕੀਮਾ ਮਲਕੀ’, ‘ਢੋਲ ਸੰਮੀ’, ‘ਰਾਜਾ ਹਰੀਸ਼ ਚੰਦਰ’ ਤੇ ਦੇਸ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਕਈ ਮਨਚਲੇ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਮਿਲਖੀ ਰਾਮ ਮਿਲਖੀ ਤੇ ਅਲਗੋਜ਼ਾਵਾਦਕ ਬੇਲੀ ਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਬੜੀ ਨੇੜਤਾ ਸੀ। ਬੇਲੀ ਰਾਮ ਨੇ ਅਲਗੋਜ਼ੇ ਵਜਾਉਣੇ ਤੇ ਮਿਲਖੀ ਨੇ ਗਾਉਣਾ। ਖ਼ੂਬ ਨਿਭੀ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਦੀ। ਇੱਕ-ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਹ ਬਣ ਵਿਚਰੇ ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਬੇਲੀ ਰਾਮ ਚਲਾਣਾ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲਖੀ ਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸੱਟ ਵੱਜੀ ਤੇ ਸੋਚ ਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਾਉਣਾ। ਚੁੱਪ ਵੱਟ ਲਈ ਪਰ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਨੇੜਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਬੁਲਾਵਿਆਂ ’ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਸਨਮਾਨ
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ-ਦੋ ਵਾਰ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੋ-ਚਾਰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਮਿਲਖੀ ਰਾਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਵੇਲ਼ੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਫੋਟੋਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਕਿ ਜੁੱਸੇ ਦਾ ਏਨਾ ਤਕੜਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਹੱਡੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਠ ਵੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਲਵਿਦਾ ਕਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
