ਜੇਹਲਮ ਦਰਿਆ (ਉਰਦੂ: دریاۓ جہلم; ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ: वितस्ता; ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰੀ: Vyeth; ਹਿੰਦੀ: झेलम)ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਦਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਜੇਹਲਮ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਿੰਧ ਦਰਿਆ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਦਰਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੈਦਿਕ ਸੱਭਿਅਤਾ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਭਾਰਤੀਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਵੀਤਾਸਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਗਰੀਕਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਏਡਾਪੀਸ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਦਾ ਸੀ। ਐਲਗਜੈਂਡਰ ਮਹਾਨ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਜੇਹਲਮ ਦਰਿਆ ਨੂੰ 326 ਈ.ਪੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੋਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਈਡਪਸ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਸ਼ਹੈਰ ਵਸਾਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਬੁਕੀਫਾਲਾ, ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਸਿੱਧ ਘੋੜੇ ਬੁਕੀਫਲਿਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਦੱਬਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਘਟਨਾ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਜੇਹਲਮ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਤੇੜੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।[1]
ਮੁੱਢ
ਦਰਿਆ ਉੱਤਰੀ-ਪੂਰਬੀ ਜੰਮੂ ਅਤੇ ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰ ਦੇ ਗਲੇਸ਼ੀਅਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀਨਗਰ ਜ਼ਿਲੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨੀਲਮ ਦਰਿਆ, ਜੇਹਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਦਰਿਆ, ਜੇਹਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ੱਫਰਾਬਾਦ, ਨੇੜੇ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਅਗਲਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਦਰਿਆ ਖੰਹੀਰ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਕਘਾਨ ਘਾਟੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਪੂੰਝ ਦਰਿਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਮੀਰਪੁਰ ਜ਼ਿਲੇ ਦੇ ਮੰਗਲਾ ਡੈਮ ਤੱਕ ਵਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਜੇਹਲਮ ਜ਼ਿਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇੱਥੇ ਇਹ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਮਤਲ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਗਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ ਚਨਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਤਰਿੱਮ ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ। ਚਨਾਬ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਤਲੁਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੰਧ ਦਰਿਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਥਾਨਕੋਟ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ।[2]
ਡੈਮ ਅਤੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ
- ਮੰਗਲਾ, 1967 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਬੰਨ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ 59 ਲੱਖ ਏਕੜ-ਫੁੱਟ (7.3 km³) ਹੈ।
- ਰਸੂਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ, 1967 ਵਿੱਚ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਦੀ ਸਮੱਰਥਾ 850,000 ਫੁੱਟ³/s (24,000 m³/s) ਹੈ।
- ਤਰਾਨੱਮ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਚਨਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ 1939 ਵਿੱਚ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ645,000 ft³/s (18,000 m³/s) ਹੈ।
