ਸੋਹਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੀਤਲ (7 ਅਗਸਤ 1909 - 23 ਸਤੰਬਰ 1998) ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਗਾਇਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਤਕਾਰ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਪੇਸ਼ਾ ਢਾਡੀ ਕਲਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਗੀਤ, ਗਲਪ ਅਤੇ ਇਤਹਾਸਕ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤ ਵੀ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਸੀ।

ਜੀਵਨ

ਸੋਹਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੀਤਲ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 7 ਅਗਸਤ 1909 ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਕਾਦੀਵਿੰਡ, ਤਹਿਸੀਲ ਕਸੂਰ, ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਲਾਹੌਰ (ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ) ਵਿਖੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਸਰਦਾਰਨੀ ਦਿਆਲ ਕੌਰ ਤੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਸ. ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਹੋਇਆ।

ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ

ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੀ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਨੀ ਸਿਖ ਲਈ। ਸੰਨ੍ਹ 1923 ਵਿਚ 14 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰੇ ਲਾਗਲੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੂਜੀ ਜਮਾਤ ਵਿਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਹੀ ਸਤੰਬਰ 1923 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੌਥੀ ਜਮਾਤ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ 1924 ਦੀਆਂ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਜਮਾਤਾਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਜਮਾਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖ਼ਲਾ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ। 1930 ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੌਰਮਿੰਟ ਹਾਈ ਸਕੂਲ ਕਸੂਰ ਤੋਂ ਦਸਵੀਂ ਫਸਟ ਡਵੀਜ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤੀ। 1931 ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਸ. ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਨੂੰ ਅਕਾਲ ਚਲਾਣਾ ਕਰ ਗਏ। 1933 ਈ. ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਤੋਂ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆ ਪਾਸ ਕਰ ਲਈ।[1]

ਮੁੱਢਲੀਆਂ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ

ਬਾਰਾਂ-ਤੇਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਲਿਖਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ। 1924 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ 'ਅਕਾਲੀ' ਅਖਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਪੀ। 1927 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ 'ਕੁਦਰਤ ਰਾਣੀ' ਕਲਕੱਤੇ ਤੋਂ ਛਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਚੇ ਕਵੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਪੀ। ਇਹ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਵਿਤਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਸੱਜਰੇ ਹੰਝੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ। 1932 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ ਜੋ ਮਾਸਿਕ ਪੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਛਪੀਆਂ। ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਕਦਰਾਂ ਬਦਲ ਗਈਆਂ, ਅਜੇ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੇਬ ਕੱਟੀ ਗਈ ਜ਼ਿਕਰਯੋਗ ਹਨ।[2]

ਪਰਿਵਾਰ

ਅਠਵੀਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਿਆਂ 10 ਸਤੰਬਰ 1927 ਨੂੰ ਸੀਤਲ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਬੀਬੀ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕੌਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਤਿੰਨ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਬੇਟੀ ਨੇ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ।

ਢਾਡੀ ਜਥਾ

1935 ਈ. ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਢਾਡੀ ਜਥਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਇਸ ਜਥੇ ਦੇ ਆਗੂ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਸੀ। ਕਾਦੀਵਿੰਡ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਤ-ਅੱਠ ਮੀਲ ਦੂਰ ਨਗਰ 'ਲਲਿਆਣੀ' ਦੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਬਾਬਾ ਚਰਾਗ਼ਦੀਨ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਢੱਡ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੰਗੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਲਈ। ਉਹ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ-ਲਿਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ, ਉਰਦੂ, ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਕਈ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਰਖਦਾ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਵਿਆਖਿਆਕਾਰ ਵੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਵੀ ਵੀ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਗਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵਾਰਾਂ ਵੀ ਆਪ ਲਿਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਢਾਡੀ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਹੌਲੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਸੱਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਲਗ ਪਏ। 1960 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਥਾਈਲੈਂਡ, ਸਿੰਘਾਪੁਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਲੇਸ਼ੀਆ ਗਿਆ। 1977 ਵਿੱਚ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਅਤੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦਾ ਦੌਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਵੁਲਵਰਹੈਂਪਟਨ, ਸਾਊਥੈਂਪਟਨ, ਵਾਲਸਲ, ਬਰਮਿੰਘਮ, ਡਡਲੀ, ਬਰੈਡ ਫੋਰਡ, ਕੁਵੈਂਟਰੀ, ਟੈਲਫੋਰਡ, ਲਮਿੰਗਾਨ, ਬਾਰਕਿੰਗ, ਸਮੈਦਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਉਥਹਾਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ। 1980 ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਫੇਰ 1981 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਅਤੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ।

ਸੋਹਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੀਤਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਲਿਖੇ ਨਾਵਲਾਂ 'ਚੋਂ 'ਜੁੱਗ ਬਦਲ ਗਿਆ', 'ਤੂਤਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਖੂਹ' ਅਤੇ 'ਜੰਗ ਜਾਂ ਅਮਨ' ਕ੍ਰਾਂਤੀਕਾਰੀ ਨਾਵਲ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਪੂਰਨ ਹਨ।
