ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੱਕੜ (22 ਮਾਰਚ 1893-15 ਜੁਲਾਈ 1932) ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਰੱਕੜਾਂ ਬੇਟ ਨੇੜੇ ਬਲਾਚੌਰ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਸ: ਜਵਾਹਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਮਾਤਾ ਬੀਬੀ ਗੋਖੀ ਦੀ ਉਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਚਪਨ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੌਮ ਤੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਅਣਖੀਲਾ, ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਗੱਭਰੂ ਸੀ।

ਨੌਕਰੀ

19 ਕੁ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਹਡਸਨ ਹਾਰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਤੌਰ ਕਲਰਕ ਭਰਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਚੰਗੀ ਡੀਲ-ਡੌਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਵਾਨ ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਬਟਾਲੀਅਨ ਦੇ ਮਸਕੋਟ ਦਾ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਥੇ ਹੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਲੀਆਂ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਰੈਜਮੈਂਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਰਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਪਰ ਛੇਤੀ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਕੁਝ ਰੁਪਿਆਂ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵੇਚਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਕੌਮ ਦੇ ਲੇਖੇ ਲਾ ਦੇਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਬੱਬਰ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਲਹਿਰ

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਬੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲੀ ਬੱਬਰ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਲਹਿਰ[1] ਨੇ ਗੋਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਮ ਕਰ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਲਹਿਰ ਨੇ 50 ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਡਮੁੱਲਾ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾਇਆ। ਬੱਬਰ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੱਕੜ ਇਸ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਸਿਰਮੌਰ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। 15 ਫਰਵਰੀ 1919 ਨੂੰ ਫੌਜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਫਿਰ ਡਿਸਚਾਰਜ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸ: ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਆ ਕੇ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਗਦਰ ਲਹਿਰ, ਜਲਿਆਂਵਾਲਾ ਬਾਗ਼ ਹਤਿਆਕਾਂਡ ਦਾ ਸਾਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਦਿਲ-ਕੰਬਾਊ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਮੁੱਚੀ ਕੌਮ ਸਹਿਤ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਝੰਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਆਪ ਨੇ ਬੱਬਰ ਅਕਾਲੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਰਗਰਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਚਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਲਈ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਬਹਾਦਰੀ ਭਰੇ ਕਾਰਨਾਮਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਜਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ

ਉਹ 23 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1932 ਨੂੰ ਚਲਦੀ ਗੱਡੀ ਰੋਕ ਕੇ ਫਰਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਫਰਾਰੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਗਾਰਦ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਗੋਰੇ ਸਾਰਜੈਂਟ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਘਾਟ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਫਿਰ ਕੀ ਸੀ, ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਨੇ ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੱਕੜ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਦਿਨ-ਰਾਤ ਇੱਕ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਰੱਕੜ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ 10 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਰੁਪਏ ਨਕਦ ਇਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ 10 ਮੁਰੱਬੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਉਹ ਰੁੜਕੀ ਖਾਸ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰਪੁਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਬੱਬਰ ਗੋਂਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਇਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੂਰ ਦੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ ਦੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਨੇ ਗਦਾਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।1931 ਨੂੰ ਕਾਲੇਪਾਣੀ ਅੰਡੇਮਾਨ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਛਾਪਾ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਰੁੜਕੀ ਖਾਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਰ-ਚੁਫੇਰਿਉਂ ਘੇਰਾ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਪਰ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਹੱਥ ਨਾ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ ਆਸ-ਪਾਸ ਦੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਹੀ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਪਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਦੇ ਅਣਖੀਲੇ ਯੋਧੇ ਬੱਬਰ ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਤਮ-ਸਮਰਪਣ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਤਰਜੀਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤੇ ਗੋਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ 15 ਜੁਲਾਈ 1932 ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦਾ ਜਾਮ ਪੀ ਲਿਆ।
