}}}} ਸਰਦਾਰ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ (23 ਫਰਵਰੀ 1881 - 15 ਅਗਸਤ 1947) ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਕ੍ਰਾਂਤੀਕਾਰੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਸੰਗਰਾਮੀਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਚਾਚਾ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਢੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ 'ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਜੱਟਾ' ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੀ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਰਤਾਨਵੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣੌਤੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਵਿਦਰੋਹੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇਆਮ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਬਸਤੀਵਾਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਆਲੋਚਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਵੇਲੇ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਵਿਦਰੋਹੀ ਐਲਾਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਤਾਉਣਾ ਪਿਆ ਸੀ। ਜਲਾਵਤਨੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਹ ਬਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਘੁੰਮਿਆ। ਇਟਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨੈਪਲਜ਼ ਦੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ ਸਿਖਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹਿੰਦੁਸਤਾਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਨੇਕ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਅਫਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਫੌਜ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸੈਨਿਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ। ਇਹ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੜਨ ਲਈ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹਿੰਦ ਫੌਜ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਨ।[1]

ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ

ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 23 ਫਰਵਰੀ 1881 ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਖਟਕੜ ਕਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਖੇ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਨਾਰਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਇਥੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਵਸੇ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਵੇਰਵਾ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਜੀਵਨੀ ‘ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਦਫ਼ਨ’ (Buried Alive) ਵਿਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।[2]ਉਸਨੇ ਸਾਈਂਡਸ ਐਂਗਲੋ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਕੂਲ ਜੱਲ੍ਹਧਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਟ੍ਰਿਕ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਅ ਕਾਲਜ, ਬਰੇਲੀ (ਯੂ.ਪੀ.) ਵਿਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸੁਤੰਤਰਤਾ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੜੀ ਤੀਬਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ।

ਸੁਤੰਤਰਤਾ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ

ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ "ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਜੱਟਾ ਲਹਿਰ" ਦਾ ਨਾਇਕ ਸੀ। 1907 ਵਿਚ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਲਾਲਾ ਲਾਜਪਤ ਰਾਏ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬਰਮਾ ਦੀ ਮੰਡਾਲੇ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਆਪਣੀ ਰਿਹਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਉਹ ਇਰਾਨ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ, ਜੋ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਫੀ ਅੰਬਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਕਲਾਬੀ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ 1909 ਤੋਂ ਉਥੇ ਕੰਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਰਤੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਵਾਦੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਸ਼ੀਕੇਸ਼ ਲੇਠਾ, ਜ਼ਿਆ-ਉਲ-ਹੱਕ, ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦਾਸ ਧੂਰੀ ਆਦਿ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ।। 1910 ਤਕ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਨ, ਹਯਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਖੁਫੀਆ ਇੰਟੈਲੀਜੈਂਸ ਨੇ ਤਾੜ ਲਿਆ।[3]
