}}}} ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਓਇ ਜੱਟਾ (1906-09) ਲਹਿਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਨਾ-ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਦਾ ਵਰਤਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਇੱਕ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਸੀ। ਸੰਨ 1907 ਈਸਵੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਨੇ ਵਾਹੀ ਹੇਠਲੀ ਭੋਇੰ ਬਾਰੇ ਇਹ ਬਿੱਲ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤੇ:-

  • ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਭੋਇੰ ਦੀ ਆਬਾਦਕਾਰੀਅਤ (ਪੰਜਾਬ) ਦਾ ਬਿੱਲ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੋਇਆ 1907
  • ਪੰਜਾਬ ਇੰਤਕਾਲ਼ੇ ਅਰਾਜ਼ੀ (ਵਾਹੀ ਹੇਠਲੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ) ਐਕਟ ਬਿੱਲ ਮੁਜਰੀਆ 1907
  • ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਰਾਵਲਪਿੰਡੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਹੀ ਹੇਠ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਲੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਧਾ
  • ਬਾਰੀ ਦੁਆਬ ਨਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਟੈਕਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਧਾ

ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਿਆਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੇਚੈਨੀ ਵੱਧ ਗਈ। ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਬੇਚੈਨੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬੰਗਾਲੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਲਾਜਪਤ ਰਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਲਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬਿੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਅਖਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖੇ। ਇਸਕਰ ਕੇ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ 'ਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ' ਉੱਤੇ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਵੀ ਚੱਲਿਆ। ਇਸਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਰ ਬੇਚੈਨੀ ਵਧੀ। ਵਾਇਸਰਾਇ ਲਾਰਡ ਕਰਜ਼ਨ (1899-1905) ਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਾਲਮਾਨਾ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਰੋਸ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੀ। ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਲੋਕ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ।

ਸੂਫ਼ੀ ਅੰਬਾ ਪਰਸ਼ਾਦ, ਬਾਂਕੇ ਦਿਆਲ, ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਸਯੱਦ ਆਗ਼ਾ ਹੈਦਰ ਇਹ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਲੀਡਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਲਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਫ਼ਲ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ 'ਅੰਜਮਨੇ ਮੁਹਿਬਾਨੇ ਵਤਨ' ਨੇ ਮੁੱਢਲਾ ਕਿਰਦਾਰ ਨਿਭਾਇਆ। ਇਹ ਲਹਿਰ 'ਭਾਰਤ ਮਾਤਾ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ' ਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਸੀ।

ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਲਸੇ, ਜਲੂਸ ਅਤੇ ਰੈਲੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ। 22 ਮਾਰਚ 1907 ਨੂੰ ਲਾਇਲਪੁਰ (ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾਬਾਦ) 'ਚ ਡੰਗਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਡੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਜਲਸੇ ਦਾ ਪਰਬੰਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਇਨਕਲਾਬੀ ਸ਼ਾਇਰ ਬਾਂਕੇ ਦਿਆਲ (1880-1929) ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਰਜ਼ੋਸ ਨਜ਼ਮ ਪੜ੍ਹੀ, ਜਿਹਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਸਨ -' ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਓ ਜੱਟਾ ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਓਇ।'। ਤੁਰੰਤ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਗੀਤ ਬੱਚੇ-ਬੱਚੇ ਦੀ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਹਰ ਜਲਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ। ਏਸ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਲਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ "ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਜੱਟਾ" ਲਹਿਰ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ। ਗੀਤ ਦਾ ਬੋਲ ਸਨ-

ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਜੱਟਾ, ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਓਇ,

ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾ ਗਏ ਕੀੜੇ, ਤਨ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਲੀੜੇ

ਭੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਖ਼ੂਨ ਨਿਚੋੜੇ, ਰੋਂਦੇ ਨੇ ਬਾਲ ਓਇ,

ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਓ ਜੱਟਾ, ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਓਇ

ਬਣਦੇ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਲੀਡਰ, ਰਾਜੇ ਤੇ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਬਹਾਦਰ

ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇ ਖਾਵਣ ਖ਼ਾਤਿਰ, ਵਿਛਦੇ ਨੇ ਜਾਲ ਓਇ

ਹਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੰਦਰ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪੁਜਾਰੀ ਤੂੰ,

ਝੱਲੇਗਾ ਕਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ, ਆਪਣੀ ਖ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਤੂੰ,

ਲੜਨੇ ਤੇ ਮਰਨੇ ਦੀ ਕਰਲੈ, ਤਿਆਰੀ ਤੂੰ,

ਤਾੜੀ ਦੋ ਹੱਥ ਵਜੇ ਛਾਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਣਿ ਓਇ

ਬਾਰ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ 1955 ਦੀ ਸੰਥਾਲ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੰਥਾਲਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੜੀ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੰਗ਼ਲ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਅਬਾਦ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ, ਪਰ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਉਹ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਖੋਹ ਕੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਾਗੀਰਦਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੰਗਲ ਵੱਲ ਧੱਕ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਫੇਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਜੰਗਲ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਜਾਗੀਰਦਾਰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਆ ਟਪਕੇ। ਹੁਣ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਵੀ ਖੋਹ ਲਏ ਗਏ, ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਇਸ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਵਿੱਚ 15 ਤੋਂ 25 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ। ਇਹ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਸਖਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਚਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਏਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਵਧੀ ਪਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਲਾਮਤ ਖ਼ਤਰੇ 'ਚ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ ਅਤੇ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ 'ਬਾਰ' ਦੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਸੋਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ। ਅਖੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ, ਤਿੰਨ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਈ 1907 ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਨੂੰ 2 ਜੂਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੀਟਿੰਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਲਾਲਾ ਲਾਜਪਤ ਰਾਏ ਨੂੰ 9 ਮਈ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਦੋਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੇ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਬਰਮਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਂਡਲੇ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਦੋਵੇਂ 11 ਨਵੰਬਰ 1907 ਨੂੰ ਰਿਹਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ।[1]
