ਵਾਂਦੇਵਾਸ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਰਤਾਨਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰਾਂਸੀਸੀ ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਇੱਕ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾਕੁੰਨ ਜੰਗ ਸੀ, ਇਹ ਸੱਤ ਸਾਲੀ ਜੰਗ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਫ਼ਰਾਂਸੀਸੀ ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਨੇ ਤਮਿਲਨਾਡੂ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਵਾਂਦੇਵਾਸ ਦੇ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਬਜ਼ਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਰ ਆਇਰ ਕੂਟ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਰਤਾਨਵੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਨੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਫ਼ਰਾਂਸੀਸੀ ਪਾਂਡੀਚਰੀ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਤੱਕ ਮਹਿਦੂਦ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ 16 ਜਨਵਰੀ 1761 ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ।[1]
ਫ਼ਰਾਂਸੀਸੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਵਿੱਚ 300 ਯੂਰਪੀ ਘੁੜਸਵਾਰ, 2,250 ਯੂਰਪੀ ਪਿਆਦੇ, 1,300 ਸਿਪਾਹੀ, 3,000 ਮਰਹੱਟੇ ਅਤੇ 16 ਤੋਪਾਂ ਸਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਬਰਤਾਨਵੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਵਿੱਚ 80 ਯੂਰਪੀ ਘੋੜੇ, 250 ਦੇਸੀ ਘੋੜੇ, 1,900 ਯੂਰਪੀ ਪਿਆਦੇ, 2,100 ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਅਤੇ 26 ਤੋਪਾਂ ਸਨ।[2]
